Annual Food Drive
February 27 to March 17
Last year, students were astounded to find out that Food for Lane County moves over 6 million pounds of food each year and that about 1 in 3 children benefit from their services each year. Advisory classes compete to earn the most points, food items are assigned point values depending on the nutritional value. Students will be bringing home more information soon. Over the past two years, Kelly students have helped bring in more than 6,000 pounds of food. This generates meals for more than 650 families! It is inspiring to watch our student’s band together and take a leadership role in helping feed our community.
Movie Night for FFLC
Friday night, March 17, the PILOT Leaders are putting on a community movie night to help raise food for Food For Lane County. We will be celebrating with Disney’s Moana. The movie night will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm in our outer gym. The leaders will be handing out free popcorn and raffle tickets for students. There will be raffle prizes of a Kelly hoody, a Kelly yearbook as well as a movie basket and other gift cards. Please come and celebrate our students helping out in the community and please bring cans if you can.
Track Starting Soon
Track season will begin March 20. If you think your child might be interested in participating, please schedule a physical now. In order to be on the team, students must have a physical that is no more than 2 years (dated no earlier than May 25, 2015). You can call the office if you need to check and see if we have a current physical on file for your student. Students can pick up the track packets in the office or you can download the forms from our website.
Please get your packets in as soon as possible as this helps us to know how many students we will have on the team. We are allocated coaches based on the number of students on the team, so the sooner you get your track packets in, the sooner we are able to secure coaching!
AVID Strides for Education Run/Walk
Please read about this healthy way to support our school! On April 9, 2017, we are joining all middle and high schools to participate in the 1st Annual “Eugene 4J 6K Strides for Education” run/walk to celebrate AVID and raise funds to support this program in each of our schools. On-line registration ($20 for adults; $10 for 4J students) is now available at the following link: http://www.eclecticedgeracing.com/4j-6k-strides-for-education.html
This will be a professionally managed 6-kilometer run/walk on the bike path along the banks of the Willamette River. The proceeds will support having college tutors at our school, sending students on college visit field trips, and more.
Parents and friends, in case you didn’t know, our school is one of many AVID sites in the Eugene School District. AVID is a college and career readiness system; it stands for “Advancement Via Individual Determination.” Hundreds of 4J teachers have been trained to utilize AVID strategies to improve instructional practice. You can learn more about AVID at http://www.avid.org

Who always makes a difference in your child’s school day? An inspiring teacher? An encouraging school secretary? A dedicated volunteer? A principal who leads by example?
