River Walk
The Entire Student Body Participates
Each year the entire student body participates in the River Walk. This event raises funds for the student-body activities, equipment, and field trips. Last year students rose over $13,000. Students started collecting pledges on Friday, September 21. Donations can also be made online through SchoolPay, click here.  With that link friends and family can use guest check out without having to create a SchoolPay account.

The River Walk is held during school hours on Friday, October 5. Students, staff and parent volunteers walk a 5.5-mile loop from school, along the river and back again. There are a variety of volunteer positions available – serving lunches, coordinating collected funds and, of course, walking! This is a great way to get to know other students, parents and staff. Call Terri Johnson at 541-790-4742 if you are interested in volunteering. All volunteers must have a cleared back ground check to participate, click here to complete the background check if needed.

BEST is Starting!

Wednesdays offer additional homework and AVID time! BEST is funded by a Federal Grant to provide students’ academic support and fun enrichment classes. Students signing up for enrichment classes are required to go to Homework/Academic Club. Applications are in the Kelly office or can be found online click here. BEST has limited space available, be one of the first to sign up!

Schedule: BEST is offered Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:35 to 5:35 PM. Morning Homework Club is offered Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 7:30 to 8:30 AM.

Chickenpox?  Strep Throat?
Please notify the school office promptly if your student is diagnosed with these or with another communicable disease.  We have other students for whom these conditions can be quite serious or life threatening. Also, chickenpox can be very serious for adolescents, so if your middle school child has not yet had chickenpox, a vaccine is now recommended and required for school attendance.

Influenza has made an early appearance this year.  If your student has a chronic health condition, please vaccinate early.

Thank you!  Robin Wellwood, BSN, RN

School Bond Measure on November Ballot
A measure that would provide local funding for Eugene public schools is on the November 6 election ballot.

The bond measure, Measure 20-297, would allow Eugene School District 4J to:

  • Make improvements at every school
  • Improve student safety, security and equity across the district
  • Provide better learning environments and materials for students
  • Boost career technical education at all 4J high schools
  • Repair and update schools that are more than 50 years old
  • Replace three aging buildings that are worn and have high energy and maintenance costs

By law, bond money can only be spent on capital improvements such as facilities, equipment, curriculum and technology. It cannot be used to pay for teachers, school days or school programs.

If the measure is approved, property tax rates for Eugene School District 4J bond debt would increase by about $0.66 per $1,000 assessed value. Property taxes would increase by about $135 a year for the median homeowner in the district, with an assessed property value of $204,000.

Voters must be registered by October 16 to vote in this election. Ballots will be mailed to registered voters beginning October 17 and must be returned to the county elections office or an official ballot drop box by November 6, 8 p.m.
