Message from the Principal

Dear Kelly Middle School Community,

The Kelly Middle School and Yujin Gakuen transition teams, consisting of school administration, teachers, classified staff, parents and students, convened the first of an ongoing series of meetings to coordinate detailed plans for the move and integration of the YG elementary school and staff into the Kelly building. The teams will collaborate with 4J district leadership and a facilitator to answer parent concerns and teacher/staff questions, and resolve both the short- and long-term planning needs for the co-location of the YG program in the Kelly Middle School building. An updated building plan was reviewed in the meeting, and the teaching staff of both schools resolved to work with the principals to identify specific spaces in the building plan for all teachers and programs and determine if classroom space needs were met. District staff committed to provide answers to common questions and indicated the district is open to considering creating more space at a school if there is a clear demonstration of need. The teams will regularly re-convene after the winter break to review the classroom assignment plans and answers to common questions, and begin discussing next steps for school transition planning. The team met on January 9th and will meet again later in the month. There will a combined meeting between the Kelly and YG teams in January.

North HS New Design

North Eugene High School Design Open House

The new North Eugene High School will be under construction soon, thanks to voters’ approval of the 2018 school bond measure.

As families are aware, Yujin Gakuen Elementary School will move to temporarily co-locate at Kelly and Corridor Elementary will move to the North Eugene building before construction begins in summer 2020. After the new high school opens in 2023, the current building will be renovated and repurposed to house school programs.

The new high school will be a high-quality building designed for safety and security, efficiency and sustainability, and 21st century learning including robust career technical education. The new school will be a community asset able to serve as a shelter after a natural disaster, with resiliency upgrades such as key areas built to an upgraded seismic standard.

You are invited on Tuesday, January 21 to a community open house about the design of the new high school.

Meet the architects. Get a look at the initial design concepts. Share your comments and ask questions about the new high school design. Learn how our community’s bond dollars will be invested wisely in a new flagship high school building in North Eugene to serve students now and for generations to come.

It’s School Choice Time

Come see what our schools offer!

In Eugene School District 4J, every school offers an excellent education for our students. Students may enroll in their neighborhood school at any time, or may request to enroll in a different 4J school provided there is space available. School choice requests will be accepted in an order determined by lottery.

To be included in the lottery, 4J residents must apply (4jschoolchoice.com) by January 31 at midnight. Non-district residents must apply between March 1 and 31. All students who want to obtain a transfer must apply, including new incoming siblings and students who have moved but want to stay enrolled at our school.

School visits are scheduled in the month of January. If you have any friends or family members who are considering school choice, please invite them to come learn more about our wonderful school and their school choice options!

Attention 8th grade families, North Eugene High School is hosting School Choice Night on Wednesday, January 22nd at 6pm in the NEHS cafeteria.  This is the first of two events that give you an opportunity to learn basic information about what North has to offer.  The second event, 8th Grade Preview Night will occur in April and will feature more in-depth and elaborate information for all incoming 9th graders to North Eugene High School.”
