A Message from the Principals

Hello Everyone—It was wonderful to see so many of you when your family drove through the parking lot or walked down the sidewalks to pick up your iPads last week. I know that our classified staff members were smiling and enjoying the moments that we could see some of your smiling faces, too.

In just a few more days, we will begin learning again together. Your teachers worked all this week on preparing lessons and learning more about—CANVAS—our way of organizing and delivering classroom lessons and materials to you. CANVAS provides an easy way for you to work with your teachers because of common templates that will be used in all of your classes. You will learn more about CANVAS when you return to classes next week.

Monday September 14 will be an “Orientation/Welcome Back” Day for ALL students.

Grade 6 students will meet in Advisory class beginning at 12:05. Advisory teachers and our Grade 8 PILOT WEB leaders will be providing activities and materials for students to get to know each other in Advisory and to get ready for the first day of classes on Tuesday September 15, which will be an “A Day.”

Grades 7 and 8 will meet in Advisory beginning at 2:15. Advisory teachers and our Grade 8 PILOT WEB leaders will be providing activities and materials for students to get to know each other in Advisory and to get ready for the first day of classes on Tuesday September 15, which will be an “A Day.”

Please be sure to let us know if you have questions or need assistance with any aspect of navigating this year’s Kelly Middle School experience.

Kelly Pilots

At Kelly, we use a unifying framework to help guide the work we do with students. We want ALL students to be able to demonstrate these concepts before moving to high school. We have captured these concepts in the following acronym that also dovetails with our aeronautic history.

P = PERSEVERE

I = IMAGINE

L = LEARN

O = OWN

T = TEAM

S = SUPPORT

Our teachers will address these concepts in advisory as well as throughout their curriculum when helping students grow into contributing and compassionate citizens of the world. We invite you

to use the same words and concepts when working with your students at home and in the community.
