A Message from the Principals

Kelly student conferences will be held via Zoom meetings on October 28 – 29. Oregon Department of Education requires 4 parent conferences per year during Comprehensive Distance Learning.

This initial conference will be hosted by your student’s Advisory teacher, who will send an invitation to you to schedule a 15-20 minute Zoom meeting conference for you and your student.

Our Kelly Middle School tradition of student-led conferences will continue later his year. Students will assemble a collection of “best work” to reflect upon and to share with you at student-led conferences later this year.

If you have questions about conferences or any other aspect of Comprehensive Distance Learning, please send us an email or call the main office on school days between 8 am and 4 pm.

Wraparound Program Opportunity

4J Wraparound Program offers support for all students and families and is a great resource.

Please see attached flyer here. Maria Covernali joined our district this year and is ready to provide assistance and support for students and families.

October 14 is Easy CBM Testing in the afternoon.

Parents please be sure your students “accept the invitation” to the KMS grade-level course invitation in Canvas.

Fall EasyCBM testing will begin October 12 in advisory classes. Students will also need to attend a testing session on October 14 via Zoom. These Zoom sessions will take place in the afternoon and times and links will be dispersed in Canvas to students.

The Eugene 4j School District administers both reading and math assessments to each of our students three times a year~ fall, winter, and spring. Students scoring below the 20th percentile may be recommended, by the building-level team, to receive instructional interventions in reading and/or math. Students receiving interventions will have their progress monitored during regular intervals. At our school, all students will receive the same number of minutes of reading instruction and instruction in the area of mathematics, each day. Parents/guardians will be notified if their child is recommended to receive additional reading or math instruction.

Canvas Support for Families

Some of you may be attempting to navigate in Canvas along with our teachers and students as “Observers” in our learning management system. Please use the links below to assist you in this important parent-student-school connection routine.

Kelly Pilots

At Kelly, we use a unifying framework to help guide the work we do with students. We want ALL students to be able to demonstrate these concepts before moving to high school. We have captured these concepts in the following acronym that also dovetails with our aeronautic history.

Our teachers will address these concepts in advisory as well as throughout their curriculum when helping students grow into contributing and compassionate citizens of the world. We invite you

to use the same words and concepts when working with your students at home and in the community.
