A Message from the Principals
We would like to remind you and your students about expectations for student engagement and attendance on “Flex Day,” which will always be listed on the calendar above this message.
Our teachers provide students with work to complete and Zoom links to attend classes in Canvas. On Flex Day (usually a Wednesday) each and every student should log into Canvas and open each and every course to complete missing assignments and any new work teachers have provided for students to complete on Flex Days.
I apologize for any misunderstandings regarding this “attendance” expectation for students on Wednesday Flex Days. On December 2 please be sure that your students engage in Canvas with learning opportunities and take advantage of afternoon office hours to receive assistance and to connect with teachers on Flex Days. It is a school day for students.
Eighth-grade students will be hearing about a special “get together” organized by some of our teachers and PILOT Leaders. On December 2 from 6:30 to 8:00 via Zoom, we hope to provide a fun social event for our Kelly 8th grade students. Students will learn how to access this Zoom event when classes resume on Monday November 30. We will refine our planning and then offer another “get together” for students in Grade 6 & Grade 7 when the new year begins in January.
Parent council meets on December 3 at 7:00 pm. It would be wonderful if you are able to join this group and learn more about parent involvement plans for this year at Kelly Middle School. The Zoom link for the meeting is Parent Meeting Zoom Link.
As this year continues, please let us know how we may be of service with regard to your students’ individual needs during Comprehensive Distance Learning.

Canvas Support for Families
The best way to monitor and to support student engagement and learning is to become an ‘Observer’ in your students’ Canvas courses. Please use the links below to assist you to navigate in Canvas as “Observers” in our learning management system. This can serve as an important parent-student-school connection routine. This will also be an important opportunity to monitor and to support student engagements, learning, and progress this year during Trimester 1 Comprehensive Distance Learning model.
Wraparound Program Opportunity
4J Wraparound Program offers support for all students and families and is a great resource.
Please see attached flyer here. Maria Covernali joined our district this year and is ready to provide assistance and support for students and families.
Kelly Pilots
At Kelly, we use a unifying framework to help guide the work we do with students. We want ALL students to be able to demonstrate these concepts before moving to high school. We have captured these concepts in the following acronym that also dovetails with our aeronautic history.
P = PERSEVERE
I = IMAGINE
L = LEARN
O = OWN
T = TEAM
S = SUPPORT
Our teachers will address these concepts in advisory as well as throughout their curriculum when helping students grow into contributing and compassionate citizens of the world. We invite you
to use the same words and concepts when working with your students at home and in the community.
