A Message from the Principals

Trimester 2 begins on Monday December 14. Please see Kelly Middle School Trimester 2 2020-2021 Calendar here

Student schedules are now visible in Synergy ParentVUE and StudentVUE. Canvas courses should be visible this weekend for students to begin on Monday. Students will need to be sure and access learning on Monday through Trimester 2 courses. Advisory teachers will be supporting students on Monday to set up the Canvas student view.

On Wednesday December 16, please be sure your student logs on to Canvas and spends time in each and every class—Periods 1-6—to complete the work assigned for Flex Day next week. Teacher activities may provide students with a chance to respond to the previous day’s work and/or prepare for upcoming work on A and B days to follow through a 10-20 minute task or assignment.

Kelly Middle School Spirit Week begins in Advisory this week with specific days and activities listed below. GO PILOTS!

Please join me in acknowledging Kelly Middle School Counselor Janice Hornsby for her dedicated service to our Kelly communities as she begins her retirement at the end of this month. A farewell message from Janice is the next item in this week’s WAG. Thank you, Janice for all your efforts to connect students with learning and keep them safe and supported.

Please let us know how we may be of service with regard to your students’ individual needs during Comprehensive Distance Learning.

Sarah Prater, Assistant Principal

A message from Janice Hornsby

Dear Kelly Family,

I am writing to inform you that as of January 1 2021, I will be retiring from Kelly Middle School as the school counselor. I have had the honor and privilege to serve you as the school counselor here since September, 2009. I feel so much gratitude to all of you, our Kelly community and family, for allowing me to support you and provide the services that I have been able to do all these years. I wanted to make sure you are all aware of my upcoming retirement ahead of time. I know preparing ourselves and others for changes and allowing time for saying goodbyes is so important whenever we can do this. I also want you to all know that I will miss you and knowing you has made me better—professionally and personally. Since I am getting a bit older (69 haha!)- this is a good time for me retire! I look forward to what lies ahead and I do plan to stay connected in some new ways with Kelly because I have a love for this school and all of you.

With love and gratitude,

Canvas Support for Families

The best way to monitor and to support student engagement and learning is to become an ‘Observer’ in your students’ Canvas courses. Please use the links below to assist you to navigate in Canvas as “Observers” in our learning management system. This can serve as an important parent-student-school connection routine. This will also be an important opportunity to monitor and to support student engagements, learning, and progress this year during Trimester 1 Comprehensive Distance Learning model.

Kelly Pilots

At Kelly, we use a unifying framework to help guide the work we do with students. We want ALL students to be able to demonstrate these concepts before moving to high school. We have captured these concepts in the following acronym that also dovetails with our aeronautic history.

Our teachers will address these concepts in advisory as well as throughout their curriculum when helping students grow into contributing and compassionate citizens of the world. We invite you to use the same words and concepts when working with your students at home and in the community.
