A Message from the Principals

We look forward to beginning school again in January; please take time to acknowledge all the challenges you have met this year during Comprehensive Distance Learning.

We are planning for today and tomorrow in our staff community. Please know that our challenges will be met–together–for our students and our community. Thank you for all the patience and grace you have shown as we do our best to make learning accessible and meaningful for our students.

On January 7, 2021 from 8 am until 6 pm we invite each and every family to come by Kelly for a supply pick up event. School supplies including a calculator, stylus and a spiral notebook. Additionally, each and every student will receive a FREE Kelly Middle School T-shirt. Many students seemed eager to receive these items when announced in Advisory this week.

Please let us know how we may be of service with regard to your students’ individual needs during Comprehensive Distance Learning.

On Thursday January 7 from 7 pm – 8 pm, our Kelly Parent and Family Group will meet via Zoom. Zoom meeting link: Kelly Parent Meeting. Meeting number: 955 0053 5565 Password: 835320.

Kelly Pilots

At Kelly, we use a unifying framework to help guide the work we do with students. We want ALL students to be able to demonstrate these concepts before moving to high school. We have captured these concepts in the following acronym that also dovetails with our aeronautic history.

P = PERSEVERE

I = IMAGINE

L = LEARN

O = OWN

T = TEAM

S = SUPPORT

Our teachers will address these concepts in advisory as well as throughout their curriculum when helping students grow into contributing and compassionate citizens of the world. We invite you to use the same words and concepts when working with your students at home and in the community.

A message from Janice Hornsby

Dear Kelly Family,

I am writing to inform you that as of January 1 2021, I will be retiring from Kelly Middle School as the school counselor. I have had the honor and privilege to serve you as the school counselor here since September, 2009. I feel so much gratitude to all of you, our Kelly community and family, for allowing me to support you and provide the services that I have been able to do all these years. I wanted to make sure you are all aware of my upcoming retirement ahead of time. I know preparing ourselves and others for changes and allowing time for saying goodbyes is so important whenever we can do this. I also want you to all know that I will miss you and knowing you has made me better—professionally and personally. Since I am getting a bit older (69 haha!)- this is a good time for me retire! I look forward to what lies ahead and I do plan to stay connected in some new ways with Kelly because I have a love for this school and all of you.

With love and gratitude,

Janice

Canvas Support for Families

The best way to monitor and to support student engagement and learning is to become an ‘Observer’ in your students’ Canvas courses. Please use the links below to assist you to navigate in Canvas as “Observers” in our learning management system. This can serve as an important parent-student-school connection routine. This will also be an important opportunity to monitor and to support student engagements, learning, and progress this year during Trimester 1 Comprehensive Distance Learning model.
