Summer is fast approaching with the month of May beginning on Saturday. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing our emerging plans for summer enrichment and skills development programs here at Kelly. Take a look at the next article below for a few dates and details.
Although we were initially hopeful that a middle school track season could be safely and successfully experienced by our students this year, I expect to officially hear that our 4j middle schools will NOT be offering Track and Field to middle school students this year. Coach Miller will communicate in Canvas once an “official word” is passed along to us.

Summer Learning at Kelly
We will be offering two session of summer learning and enrichment for current 6th and 7th grade students at Kelly Middle School. The programs will be FREE for each and every student. We will provide a Spanish Immersion program and an English Language program during both of our 3-week summer sessions. Each session will include in-person activities and community enrichment trips as allowed by our Lane County health numbers and 4j Covid-19 safety practices in place at the time of the sessions. The summer sessions will be supported and presented by Kelly teachers and classified staff.
Please take a look at your calendar and mark our first 3-week session as meeting between June 28-July 15. Our second 3-week session will be meeting between July 26-August 12. We plan to offer a Spanish Immersion cohort during BOTH sessions that will be taught by our Kelly Immersion teachers. This will be an excellent time to connect for enrichment and language practice with other students. Both language programs will meet at Kelly Middle School in the morning until early afternoon. We hope that your student will attend as your interests and summer calendars allow. More information about the programs and enrollment details will be sent in upcoming WAG messages next month.

Health and Safety Reminder
We ask that families please follow these guidelines to help all students stay healthy and ready to learn.
- Please do not send an ill student to school.
- Please contact your health care provider about any SERIOUS ILLNESS or if you are worried about your student’s health. If you need help in finding a healthcare provider, you may contact your local health department.
- Please notify the school if your child is diagnosed with a CONTAGIOUS DISEASE.
- Please notify the school if your student requires MEDICATIONS during school hours.
- Follow school protocols for medication at school. If your student’s illness requires antibiotics, the student must have been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours before returning to school, and longer in some cases. Antibiotics are not effective for viral illnesses.
- Please notify the school if your student has a CHRONIC HEALTH CONDITION. We will work with you to address the health condition so that the student can learn. To contact the school nurse, please email Robin Wellwood at wellwood@4j.lane.edu .
Masks – All people, both students and adults, MUST wear masks at all times while on school property. The only time students may remove their masks is during mealtimes. Gaters, bandanas, and face shields are not permitted face coverings according to Ready Schools, Safe Learners Guidance from ODE.
