GANAS – After School Homework Club
This after-school program for students interested in Latino culture. Besides homework help, students may do fun activities like craft-making and dances. Spanish-speaking aides are available. In these photos, the Kelly students in the Ganas after-school study group pose for a picture and University of Oregon MeCHA students work with the Kelly kids on their homework.
WEB (Where Everybody Belongs)
WEB is a middle school transition program that welcomes 6th graders and makes them feel comfortable through the first year at Kelly Middle School. The program trains members of the 8th-grade class to be WEB Leaders. Sixth-grade students:
• Attend a fun 6th grade orientation day
• Begin developing relationships with other students
• Learn strategies that will contribute to middle school success
• Participate in a variety of academic and social activities
There are three school socials every school year. These events feature a variety of activities designed for students to practice social skills and have fun while increasing their positive bonding to school. Activities may include such things as craft-making, games, and of course dancing while a live DJ spins tunes. We encourage all students to participate.
At the beginning of every school year, it is the tradition for all Kelly students to participate in a combined fitness walk and fundraiser. All students will head out for the walk and when they return to school they enjoy a BBQ lunch. Students will walk to Maurie Jacobs Park and back to school along the bike path; the walk is approximately 5.5 miles. Students that wish to attend the Prize Party can collect monetary donations from neighbors, friends, and relatives. Click here to make online donations, family and friends can use guest check out without having to create a SchoolPay account!
The money students raise is split three ways 1) in support of their various student social activities throughout the school year (dances, speakers, field trips, etc.), 2) in support of classroom learning activities (supplies, materials, etc.), and 3) as a reward the staff members who organized the event by giving them extra school program resources. We appreciate the participation of our community in making our school a great place for learning.
