Volunteers Still Needed
We have several opportunities in the coming weeks to volunteer at Kelly:
Event Night on Nov. 21
OBOB leaders
Book Room Organizers
Mentors
General help during activity times
If you are interested in helping in one or more of these ways please fill out the volunteer application. If you already are cleared to volunteer, and are interested in any of these opportunities, please reach out at 541-790-4740 or prater_s@4j.lane.edu.

Mentor volunteers:
Kelly Middle School is looking for a new volunteer Mentor Coordinator. Our Middle School Lunchtime Mentoring Program supports at risk youth by partnering them with a Mentor for lunch once a week. Last year we had 112 students being Mentored in 4J each week. The Kelly Mentor Coordinator volunteers on Tuesdays from 12:30-1:30, and does another 30 minutes of flexible communications during the week. The volunteer Mentor Coordinator is fully trained and supported by the 4J staff Mentor Coordinator. This is a fantastic way to get involved in our community, and make a difference in the lives of young people! Please contact Kate Becker for more information:  becker_k@4j.lane.edu  541-517-0394

Bike Club at Kelly on Mondays
A new club started on Mondays in collaboration with Shift Cycles in Eugene. This is an opportunity to learn about bike safety, bike repairs, and go on group rides. This is not a school sponsored activity, but will be held right after school on Mondays at Kelly.

  • Share updates on how the pilot is going at the four high schools and one middle school currently participating.

This conversation will help families understand the purpose of the pilot, how it is being implemented, and what we are learning so far from students and staff.

Better Eugene-Springfield Transportation
Changes are going to happen on River Road, and Better Eugene-Springfield Transportation (BEST) wants these changes to reflect what you and our community needs. In two town halls and two walk audits, Smart Growth America will share how other cities have transformed their own streets and listen to your experiences on River Road. Smart Growth America is a national nonprofit who works to create communities that are prosperous, resilient, and well-connected to essential destinations no matter how you choose to get around. These November 13th events kick off a months-long process where BEST will gather community perspectives on the challenges and celebrations of River Road and Highway 99. Your perspectives will be shared back to help guide the City’s and LTD’s upcoming plans for these two corridors. Use this link to register.

November 14th:
Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day
Students, clubs, sports teams, affinity groups, families, neighbors, and friends are invited to join in the celebration of courage and community for our annual Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on FRIDAY, November 14th.

As in years past, we’ll gather at North Eugene High School at 7:30 a.m. to hear inspiring speeches from our NEHS BSU leadership team before we set off together.
Afterward, we’ll grab our signs and megaphones and march in support—down Silver Lane, across River Road, toward Maxwell, back across River Road, up Silver Lane, and returning to North.
November 17th:

  • Skills Addressed:

An alternative lesson will be provided for students in the alternative work center (AWC).

The links below are opt-out forms if you would rather your student not participate in these discussions. Those forms also have links to the presentations themselves, so you can review and make your decision accordingly. The presentations will be available in other languages for any student where English isn't their first language upon delivery. They are currently being translated and if you'd like to see them in your first language, please let the school know so we can send them to you when they are complete.

Thank you for supporting your student!
