Reminder about School Policies:
Lockers: Students are assigned a locker every year. Students should keep backpacks and cell phones in their lockers during the day. Lockers are part of the school, and can be opened or searched if there is concern.

Sharing Lockers: Recently, we have become aware that some students are sharing lockers. We do not allow students to share lockers. If something is found in a locker, it is the responsibility of the student to which the locker is assigned. If a student stores their belongings in another student's locker, we cannot open that locker for them to get their items. They need to keep their own belongings in their own locker.

Food and Drinks: When students enter the school at the beginning of the day, they should not bring any drinks other than water. No coffee drinks, energy drinks, soda, or other sugary drinks. Also, food and drinks are not allowed in the hallways, classrooms, turf, or playground area, only the cafeteria.

Colognes, Perfume, and Body Sprays--Please do not bring these to school; we have several students and staff who have sensitivities and significant reactions (including migraines) caused by strong scents. We have seen an uptick in students bringing them to school. Thank you for supporting your students in following the school policies.

Wondering About Winter Weather?
When winter weather hits, schools may be closed or delayed or buses may use snow routes due to snow and ice. The school district decides early in the morning whether there is a need to change the school schedule or bus routes. These decisions are made districtwide and are the same for every 4J school.
How to find out if there is a change:
  • Email or text message sent to you from the district
  • Check the district website at 4j.lane.edu
  • Follow 4J on social media: Facebook and Instagram
  • Tune in to local radio and television news stations
If there is a school closure or other change, the school district will announce it before 6:30 a.m. If schools and buses are on their regular schedule, there will NOT be an announcement.
Parents of students who ride school buses that have alternate snow routes have been informed of what to do. Snow route information is available on the snow routes page.
If school is in session, families are encouraged to consider road conditions in their areas and make their own decisions based on safety. Parents’ individual decisions about school attendance will be honored.

Mentor volunteers:
Kelly Middle School is looking for a new volunteer Mentor Coordinator. Our Middle School Lunchtime Mentoring Program supports at risk youth by partnering them with a Mentor for lunch once a week. Last year we had 112 students being Mentored in 4J each week. The Kelly Mentor Coordinator volunteers on Tuesdays from 12:30-1:30, and does another 30 minutes of flexible communications during the week. The volunteer Mentor Coordinator is fully trained and supported by the 4J staff Mentor Coordinator. This is a fantastic way to get involved in our community, and make a difference in the lives of young people! Please contact Kate Becker for more information:  becker_k@4j.lane.edu  541-517-0394
